2,000 Years Ago in South Africa

Artefacts such as reconstructed pots, iron blades and hoes, copper ingots (used as currency), glass and gold beads as well as grinding stones from the Early Iron Age (c. AD 200-1000) and the Later Iron Age (c. AD 1000-1830).

Katanga, Zambia and Zimbabwe iron-using cultures begin to develop in central and southeastern Africa. Iron working was probably introduced southwards from Meroe which had a large iron manufacturing industry.
