The web site tells the story of an 18th century Spanish presidio and mission that played an important role in the balance of French, Spanish, and Caddo Indian power in North America. The settlement marked the eastern frontier of the Spanish Province of Texas, and it served as the provincial capital for more than 40 years. The present-day archaeological site is a National Historic Landmark and a State Historic Site that is open to the public. The online exhibit provides an opportunity for the public to learn about life at the site, as revealed through history and archaeology. The website presents interactive maps, artifact photographs, and illustrations, as well as summary text and supplementary historical documents.
This is a comprehensive site about women in Canadian history, presenting a variety of educational resources. Features include quotes, historical images, news, biographies, "This Month in Herstory", contests and information about events, films, books and historic sites. The website was developed by historian Merna Forster of Ottawa, Ontario.
The McCord Museum of Canadian History introduces EduWeb, its new on-line educational program. EduWeb is accessible free of charge and presents diverse ways of using Web resources in secondary-level history classes. The program's well researched and richly illustrated content, includes:
- Keys to History, a bilingual, searchable database containing 90,000 images dating from 1840 to 1945;
- Full documentation for 2,000 of these images, including descriptions provided by experts, historians and museologists from various institutions across Canada.
- 50 thematic tours about major events and everyday life in the past.
- Activities, mainly observation games, quizzes, and inquiries into the past. These activities are described in our pedagogical guide entitled ClioClic, which provides students with additionnal sources of information.
